Overview
The pulp and paper industry presents a uniquely demanding environment for plant and equipment. Pumps, valves, de-barkers, digesters and other process equipment are constantly exposed to highly corrosive chemicals, abrasive slurries and extreme temperatures — leading to accelerated wear, corrosion and frequent unplanned breakdowns.
Belzona polymer repair composites and ceramic-filled coatings allow damaged equipment to be repaired and protected in-situ, without the need for welding, disassembly or costly replacement. The result is significantly reduced downtime, lower maintenance costs and extended service life for critical process assets.
Pump repair and protection
Pumps in pulp and paper mills handle aggressive chemical media and abrasive slurries that rapidly erode and corrode pump casings, impellers and volutes. Belzona ceramic-filled composites such as Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal) and Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal) rebuild worn and damaged pump components to original tolerances, while providing outstanding resistance to further erosion and corrosion attack.
Belzona coatings can also be applied as a preventive measure to new or refurbished pumps, significantly extending service intervals and reducing the frequency of pump overhauls.
De-barker and process equipment lining
De-barkers, digesters and other process vessels in pulp mills are subjected to severe abrasion and corrosion from bark, chemicals and high-pressure water jets. Belzona 1811 (Ceramic Carbide) provides exceptional abrasion resistance and is widely used for lining de-barkers and other equipment exposed to severe abrasive conditions. Multi-layer systems combining Belzona 1321 and Belzona 1811 provide both corrosion and abrasion protection in a single application.

Valve and rotary equipment repair
Rotary valves, liquid ring vacuum pumps and other rotating equipment in pulp and paper plants suffer from continuous erosion and corrosion due to the aggressive media they handle.
