Overview

The marine industry presents some of the most challenging conditions for engineering materials — constant immersion in seawater, cavitation, biofouling, mechanical impact and corrosion are all daily realities for vessels and offshore structures. Belzona's range of repair composites, elastomers and protective coatings have been specifically formulated to address these demands.

Belzona solutions allow repairs to be carried out afloat and in-service, without the need for dry-docking or hot work — reducing downtime significantly and extending the operational life of vessels, offshore platforms and marine equipment.

Propeller and pump repair

Cavitation erosion and mechanical damage to propellers, pump casings and impellers are among the most common maintenance challenges in the marine sector. Belzona metal repair composites rebuild worn and damaged surfaces to original tolerances, while ceramic-filled grades provide outstanding resistance to further cavitation erosion and corrosive attack.

Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide) is widely used for coating pump internals, reducing turbulence and improving hydraulic efficiency whilst protecting against corrosion and erosion — used by navies and commercial operators worldwide.

Heat exchanger protection

Marine heat exchangers are subjected to continuous attack from seawater, erosion and galvanic corrosion. Belzona epoxy coatings provide a long-term protective barrier on tube sheets, water boxes and channel heads, isolating the substrate from corrosive media and preventing further degradation.

Application can be carried out aboard the vessel during routine maintenance periods, without removal or dry-docking, significantly reducing associated costs and turnaround time.

Hull and structural repair

Corrosion, impact damage and through-wall defects on hull plating and structural components can be repaired using Belzona cold plate bonding and repair composite systems. These solutions restore structural integrity without welding, making them ideal for use in confined spaces, fuel tanks or areas where hot work is not permitted.

Belzona SuperWrap II provides a high-strength composite wrap repair for pipes and vessels, fully compliant with ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 standards — suitable for offshore pipework and vessel structural repairs.

Fender repair and rubber bonding

Marine fenders and rubber-lined components are subject to constant impact, abrasion and UV exposure. Belzona elastomeric repair composites allow damaged fenders and rubber cladding to be repaired or replaced without full removal — bonding new rubber sections permanently and restoring protection to offshore risers, jetty fenders and docking equipment.

Pipework and live leak sealing

Corroded, damaged or leaking pipework aboard vessels can be repaired quickly and effectively using Belzona repair composites and SuperWrap II composite wrap systems. Where live leaks are present, Belzona injection bonding technology and specialist sealants allow leaks to be stopped without shutting down systems or requiring hot work in potentially hazardous environments.
