Product Description

The composite wrap system, Belzona SuperWrap II, offers a new generation repair solution for restoring the strength of holed, weakened and corroded pipe and tank walls. The composite wrap is comprised of a 100% solids resin system, a bespoke hybrid reinforcement sheet, based on fibre glass and carbon fibre, as well as a release film to compact and consolidate the application.

The system is available in four different resin grades — Belzona 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984 — making it suitable for applications in various environments and climates, with service temperatures ranging from -60 °C (-76 °F) up to 150 °C (302 °F).

Belzona SuperWrap II is specially designed to facilitate the fast and simple, in-situ repair of through-wall and thin-wall defects on pipes and tank walls. The composite wrap technology can even be applied in aqueous environments and is a reliable alternative to welding.

Key Benefits

  • Can be designed and applied in accordance with ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 standards and applied by trained and validated personnel
  • Quick and easy to install, without the need for shutdown
  • Can be applied in damp, wet and underwater environments without the need for abrasive blasting
  • Belzona paste-grade materials are available for the restoration of pitted surfaces prior to application
  • Service temperatures ranging from -60 °C (-76 °F) up to 150 °C (302 °F)
  • Outstanding chemical and corrosion resistance
  • Thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of steel, reducing build-up of strain due to thermal cycling
  • Excellent adhesion to carbon steel
  • Reduced health and safety risks thanks to 100% solids technology
  • Validated training available for Designers, Supervisors and Installers

Applications

  • Compliant or conventional composite wrap system for the repair of complex geometries of pipes including bends, straights and tees
  • Wet-applied composite patch for repairs of large diameter pipes (over 60 cm) and tank walls
  • Prefabricated and pre-cured composite plate for plate bonding applications
  • Prefabricated composite pad for pipe support — can be overcoated with an erosion-resistant coating such as Belzona 1331

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ISO 24817 testing?

ISO 24817 testing refers to the standardised qualification and performance testing of composite repair systems for metallic pipes and pipelines suffering from external corrosion or mechanical damage. This standard ensures that the repair method is structurally sound, long-lasting, and safe under defined pressure and temperature conditions.

Belzona SuperWrap II has been tested and fully qualified to ISO 24817, demonstrating that it can restore or maintain the structural integrity of pipework in line with strict industry requirements for both design and application.

Are composite wraps compliant with ISO or ASME standards?

Yes, Belzona SuperWrap II is fully compliant with both ISO 24817 (for composite repairs of metallic pipework) and ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1 (which governs non-metallic composite repair systems). This compliance assures asset owners that Belzona SuperWrap II meets globally recognised standards for performance, reliability, and safety.

What is the purpose of a pipe wrap?

The purpose of a pipe wrap like Belzona SuperWrap II is to restore structural integrity to damaged, corroded, or leaking pipes, extend the service life of pipelines without shutdown or replacement, contain pressure and reinforce weakened areas, and provide a non-intrusive, cold-applied repair that avoids hot work.

What is a composite pipe repair system?

A composite pipe repair system uses high-performance composite materials — typically a combination of a reinforcement fabric (like carbon or glass fiber) and a polymeric resin — to reinforce or restore pipework affected by corrosion, erosion, or mechanical damage. Belzona SuperWrap II is custom designed for each application based on pressure, temperature, and pipe geometry.

What material is used for pipeline wrapping?

Belzona SuperWrap II uses a high-strength composite system composed of a reinforcement fabric (carbon fibre or glass fibre), a specially formulated Belzona epoxy resin that bonds to the substrate, and a release film used during application to ensure proper compaction and cure.

Can composite wraps be used for high-pressure pipe repairs?

Belzona SuperWrap II is specifically engineered for high-pressure applications. It can handle both through-wall and non-through-wall defects, and can be applied as a live repair, meaning pipework can remain in service during application. The system is backed by full engineering calculations and third-party testing.
